Mary's interest lies in large-scale, dramatic landscapes and she finds her inspiration mainly in the far North West of Scotland where the rugged, textured landscape and ever-changing light offer endless challenge.

Her paintings aim to capture the scale of these large landscapes and to interpret their mood and atmosphere. These 'interpretations' take different forms; she paints in Oil, Watercolour or Pastel, using and manipulating each medium to create the mood of that particular scene, but seldom mixing the media. In addition she has developed a unique type of watercolour collage, which results in a 'fractured image' which gives a further dimension to the scene. The angular aspect of these collages is also used in paintings where she uses thin ink to build up many overlapping layers, producing a 'jewelled' effect, and a feeling that the forms extend that which is immediately visible to the eye.

Mary has exhibited her work regularly in London with the Pastel Society and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and also exhibits locally in the Cotswolds and in North-West Scotland.

She is a past Chairman of the Fosseway Artists and a founding member of the Helios group of painters.
